It began in 2041 within the cellular debris of a failed regenerative therapy trial in the Yukon. The Pram-9 protein was intended to be a miracle of modern medicine, a biological reset for damaged nerves. Instead, it became a master key for the mammalian genome. Scientists labeled it Extreme Biological Plasticity, but the world simply called it the end.
The Pram-9 mutation allowed for a horrific type of rapid-onset evolution. It turned predators into biological recorders capable of reconfiguring bone density, muscle mass, and vocal frequencies within minutes of observing a subject. These Skinwalkers were not supernatural creatures. They were the ultimate apex predators, exploiting a glitch in the very blueprint of life.
By 2048, the global infrastructure had been dismantled by its own echoes. You could not trust a distress signal if the voice on the other end was a perfect digital-biological mimic. Humanity retreated into fortified Outposts, relying on low-tech perimeters to bypass the creatures' ability to manipulate modern digital sensors. The rule was simple: Trust the steel, never the signal.
