The Rakhiot Anomaly
Epilogue: Metabolism
[Digital Forensics Report: Item #95-Alpha, October 2024]
Object: Item #95-Alpha (The Mummery Canister) Condition: Partially corroded by unknown chemical agents. Recovery Location: The Rakhiot Ridge, alt. 7,800m.
Biological Analysis: The canister contained the journal of Albert Mummery. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of dried biological matter fused to the leather cover.
Genetic Sequencing: Inconclusive. The sample is a genomic slurry—fragments of Homo sapiens and Capra ibex (mountain goat) dissolved into a single, chaotic sequence. The cells lack distinct membranes; they are unbound, predatory organelles held together by a corrosive protein structure. It is not a creature in the traditional sense. It is a macroscopic white blood cell—an antibody for the stone.
Historical Context: This recovery confirms a long-standing anomaly. Diaries from multiple expeditions have noted that the summit plateau is a graveyard of gear. Scattered across the ice are hundreds of pitons, boots, and frayed ropes—indigestible matter. Fiber and metal. But there are no bodies.
Whatever rules the mountain does not keep the dead. It breaks them down. We are not explorers to Nanga Parbat. We are sustenance.
